The AI Assistant

Using TrialKit's AI Assistant

What is the AI Assistant?

TrialKit's AI Assistant is an intelligent chat tool powered by advanced language AI (LLM) technology. It enables you to search through all of your case files and the rich descriptive metadata that TrialKit automatically creates when you upload documents. Instead of manually digging through folders, the AI Assistant understands your questions in plain English and instantly finds the information you need.

Key Features

  • TrailKit's AI Assistant searches only your case data: The AI Assistant never looks outside of your specific case. It never pulls data from the Internet or searches other cases in your firm's TrialKit environment.
  • TrailKit's AI Assistant always cites sources: Every answer includes links directly to the files and specific locations where the information was found, so you can verify results instantly.
  • TrailKit's AI Assistant is intuitive and conversational: Ask questions naturally. The AI Assistant understands context and can make reasonable assumptions to answer your queries.
  • You can create customizable searches: Set parameters to narrow your search scope—search only video files, specific date ranges, particular document types, or other custom filters.
  • TrailKit's AI Assistant allows for flexible formatting: Control how answers are presented—get summaries, detailed lists, tables, or other formats that suit your needs.

Getting Started

  1. Opening the AI Assistant

  • Open any case in TrialKit
  • Look for the AI Assistant icon in the toolbar or navigation panel
  • Click to open the chat interface
  1. Your First Search

Once the AI Assistant is open, simply type your question in plain English. For example:

Sample QuestionsWhat You'll Get
"What did the witness say about the accident?"Direct quotes from the deposition with links to the exact files
"Show me all documents from October 2023"A list of all relevant documents from that time period with direct access links
"Find any mention of 'settlement' in video files"Timestamps and clips from videos containing that topic

Tips & Best Practices

Be Specific with Your Questions

  • Instead of: "Tell me about the case"
  • Try: "What are the key facts about the plaintiff's injuries?"

Use Iterative Refinement

  • Start with a broad question, then ask follow-up questions to dig deeper
  • The AI Assistant learns context from the conversation, so each question can build on the previous one
  • Example: First ask "Who are the key witnesses?" then follow up with "What did each of them say about timing?"

Narrow Your Search Scope

  • Specify document types: "Search only in depositions"
  • Filter by date: "Look for emails from January 2023"
  • Combine filters: "Find all video files from medical examination visits"
  • Narrowing your search makes results more relevant and focused

Request Your Preferred Format

  • Ask for summaries: "Summarize this deposition for me"
  • Request lists: "List all dates when the accident was mentioned"
  • Ask for tables: "Create a table of all witness statements by topic"
  • The AI Assistant will format results to match your request

Understand the Full Case Database

  • Your search isn't limited to the document you're currently viewing
  • The AI Assistant searches the entire database TrialKit has built about your case, including all metadata
  • This means you can find connections and information across all your files simultaneously

Verify Sources

  • The AI Assistant always provides source citations
  • Click the links provided to review the original context and confirm accuracy
  • Use this as a starting point for your own analysis, not the final word

Privacy & Security

You can trust that your case data remains completely secure and private:

  • The AI Assistant only searches within your specific case
  • No data is shared with other cases or firms
  • No external data sources or the public internet are accessed
  • Your confidential information stays exactly where it belongs—in your secure case file

Ready to get started? Open your next case and try the AI Assistant today. The more you use it, the more efficient your case research will become.
