Notes

Adding a note to a file in your case discovery is an example of creating work product within TrialKit. Notes can currently be added to documents and audio or video transcripts. When a note is added it can be found in the Work Product menu. In that view the note will appear as a card with a link back to the file that you added the note to. You can filter all of the work product in the view to see all of your notes and all of the notes added to your case files by other case teammates.

See below for step-by-step instructions on how to add notes to documents and transcripts.

Adding Notes to Document Files

There are two ways to add a note to a document:

Adding a note by highlighting text
  1. In the document page view select the Highlight tool in the upper left corner (this is the default tool setting)

  1. In your document find the text that you would like to annotate
  2. Click and drag your mouse cursor over this text highlighted all of the text you want to annotate
  3. When you un-click the mouse the text will remain highlighted and small option menu will appear

  1. Select Add Note in this menu
  2. An overlay menu will appear where you will see the test you had selected. Here you can add your note about this text:

  1. Select Add Item and this note will now be saved in your Work Product section
  2. Included in the note card within Work Product will be a hyperlink. Clicking that link will open the file you annotated with the text you marked and noted highlighted

Adding a note by marking an area of the document

For some documents you may want to mark an entire section of the page to annotate. This may because the document contains and image or a chart, or perhaps handwriting. In some cases the document may not have been fully processed with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) meaning text selection is not possible.

To mark and annotate a section of a document you can use the Mark Area tool:

  1. In the document page view select the Mark Area tool in the upper left corner

  1. This tool will allow you to create a bounding box around a section of your document. Click to the left of where you want the box to start and drag the mouse cursor down and to the right to create the selection box.
  2. When you un-click your mouse the area you selected will remain highlighted and the same submenu as above will appear.

  1. Add your note in the menu overlay that appears
  2. Select Add Item and this note will now be saved in your Work Product section
  3. Included in the note card within Work Product will be a hyperlink. Clicking that link will open the file you annotated with the area you marked and noted highlighted

Adding Notes to Video or Audio Files

The process of adding a note to a transcript of a video or audio file in TrialKit is very similar to the option above for adding a note by selecting text in a document. Remember, all audio and video files are automatically transcribed by TrialKit when the file is uploaded and processed. This makes annotating transcripts (and therefore video and audio) very easy.

Follow these steps to add a note to a transcript of an audio or video file:

  1. Open your audio or video file by double-clicking the file in a folder view
  2. In the audio or video player view you will see the full transcript on display

  3. Click on any line of text and drag over the entire statement to highlight
  4. When you un-click the mouse the text will remain highlighted and small option menu will appear:

  1. Select Add Note in this menu
  2. An overlay menu will appear where you will see the test you had selected. Here you can add your note about this text:
  3. Add your note in the menu overlay that appears
  4. Select Add Item and this note will now be saved in your Work Product section
  5. Included in the note card within Work Product will be a hyperlink. Clicking that link will open the file you annotated with the area of the transcript you marked and noted highlighted
